2. Rowenta DG8520 Perfect Steam Review

Rowenta DG8520Quick facts about the Rowenta DG8520 perfect steam iron station

  • Color: Purple
  • Water Tank Capacity: 47 ounces (1.4 Liters)
  • Heating Time: 60 seconds
  • Max Steam Time: 90 minutes per filling
  • Steam Hose Length: 5 ft
  • Steam Cord Length: 6 ft
  • Steam Holes (small): 400
  • Volts/Watts: 110-120V, 1800W
  • Item Size (when fully extended): 17.7 x 13.6 x 11 inches
  • Item Weight: 12.21 pounds
Pros
  • Can be used as both an iron and a steamer. (For the most part, the unit is dry and you can use it as you would an iron. If you need steam–just squeeze the trigger underneath the iron’s handle.)
  • Has adjustable temperatures for more delicate fabrics
  • Water tank does not get hot–so can be refilled while in use
  • Designed for use with regular tap water
  • Excellent for deep steam pressing–very little pressure required to get great results.
  • Incredible steam volume and amount (up to 90 minutes) that can blast through even the toughest wrinkles.
  • Since the water tank does not get hot, you get to be able to iron and refill anytime.
  • Very lightweight since the water tank is separated from the iron
  • Since the boiler is separated from the iron, there are no drips or spitting of water.
  • The 400 steam holes allow an even distribution of steam
  • Its narrower ironing tip grants access to smaller areas and doubles for more precision.
  • There’s a lock to hold the iron in place so the machine can be easily carried from place to place.
  • Does not ruin your clothes since there’s no water leakage.
Cons
  • Premium price.
  • The iron is less heavy than usual as some of the functions are at the main station. The station as a whole is, however, heavier than a simple iron but less heavy than other similar products.
  • If you have got really hard water get prepared to clean the tank more often.
  • Makes an (audible) sound of an intense burst of steam.
  • Difficult to see the water level.
  • Customer service not so great.

Editor’s note. Rowenta’s ratings dropped between December 2017 and August 2018 with lots of customers complaining about the product’s quality and performance. It seems though that Rowenta had fix this issue seeing from September 2018 and up ratings had picked again.

Our recommendations

  • Assuming you don’t have a defective product, if this unit ever leaks, check to be sure your iron is not upright (vertical). Always return the iron to the cradle or on the rubber heat-proof pad.
  • After prolonged use, you may want to give it 3-5 mins to build up a heavy burst of steam again.
  • Don’t leave water in the boiler; the water in the steaming pipe will condense.
  • Rinse the boiler and clean the cal with running water, if you usually leave the iron seating for a few weeks.
  • Steam flow is strong so keep your hands very firmly out of the way of the steam jet.
  • Manual instructions recommend using untreated tap water but if your water is very hard then maybe use half untreated tap water with half distilled water.
  • If you’re refilling in between steaming sessions, remember to turn the steamer off.
  • Usually no drippings–but it makes sense to be patient and let the green button achieve full bar, indicating it’s ready for use.
  • If the steam flow is irregular, check for kinks on the hose. Straighten the hose and things should get better.

Ready to take action?

This Rowenta DG8520 could be pricey but it’s worth the expenditure if you do a lot of ironing or iron regularly. It’s larger overall than a conventional iron but on the plus side, it provides you with a continuous burst of steam for the tough jobs.

3. Rowenta IS6520 Master Fabric Steamer Review

Rowenta IS6520 fabric steamer

  • Max Steam Time: 60 minutes per filling
  • Steam Hose Length: 5 ft
  • Steam Cord Length: 6 ft

  • Steams fast (heats up in 45 seconds or less), well (full strong, steady steam flow for up to 90 minutes), and eliminates the burden of ironing.
  • Its generous (1 gallon) water capacity eliminates the need for constant refilling
  • The Press and Roll feature provide support so you can actually press the wrinkles out and put a crease into your pants.
  • Designed for use with regular untreated tap water without spitting or leaking
  • 360-degree rotating hanger for easy steaming
  • Can be used on a variety of fabrics (pants, shirts, sweaters, skirts, coats, table linens, etc.) and clothes with delicate materials (chiffon, for one) successfully
  • You can add water while the unit is hot
  • Little or no wet spots
Cons
  • The hose isn’t very long (only about 6 ft) so you might need to move the steamer around to get coverage.
  • The pole does not extend tall enough to prevent a user from having to bend over to steam the bottom of garments.
  • The water hose or the steam handle could get hot.
  • You only get full steam if the hose is held upright.
  • The hose is plastic and therefore crimps as you move it around causing the steam pressure and amount to decrease.
  • Works pretty well on thin fabrics, but not so well on thicker fabrics.
  • Due to the pull-down screen, it also does not store well, even though you can shorten the pole.
  • There’s only one steam setting.

<<<See Rowenta IS6520 fabric steamer in action>>>

Our recommendations

  • Get steaming mittens or gloves
  • Empty out any remaining water in the water tank and let it dry out after each use.
  • Because the nozzle does get hot, you should consider gripping far enough down on the handle so as to avoid the steam. Plus, keep out of reach of children!

Overall the Rowenta IS6520 fabric steamer quality is topnotch. It’s a snap to use and gives whatever you’re doing a polished look. You would have a hard time doing without it.

4. Jiffy 2000 (Plastic/Metal Steam Head) Garment Steamer Review

JIFFY 2000 garment steamer

Quick facts about Jiffy 2000 garment steamer

  • Color: Beige
  • Water Tank Capacity: 3.84 Liters
  • Heating Time: 2 minutes or less
  • Max Steam Time: 90 minutes
  • Steam Hose Length: 5 ft
  • Steam Head Length: 6 inches
  • Steam Cord Length: 6 ft
  • Volts/Watts: 120V, 1300W
  • Item Size (when fully extended): 10 in x 15 in x 64 in
  • Item Weight: 18 pounds

Jiffy steamer metal vs plastic head

The metal surface of the Jiffy 2000 steamer acts like an iron on an ironing board which is why many think it will be too hot and could potentially burn them or ruin their delicate fabrics.

But while the metal head has a wooden handle that will rarely break, this wooden handle, however, is heavy (some users find this rather uncomfortable reason they prefer the plastic head option which is lightweight) but you can easily hang it on the provided garment pole.

Overall, no noticeable difference in performance, but it’s looking like the metal head option offers versatility/durability while the plastic head option offers convenience/safety.

That mentioned, the metal head option is some dollars pricier than the plastic option. Regardless, you can order replaceable parts (plastic or metal steam heads) from Jiffy or Amazon.

Pros
  • Simple to put together
  • Heats up within a minute, cools down almost as fast, and holds enough water (for up to an hour/ an hour and a half of steaming) for home and light commercial use
  • Can handle thicker materials
  • Does not take much space
  • The wooden handle (the metal steam head option) stays cool to the touch
  • Less gurgling and spilling
  • Sturdy wheels and a metal pole to keep the hanger in place
  • Rolling casters glide with ease and the Jiffy 2000 garment steamer feels well balanced
  • Minimal packaging
  • The Jiffy 2000 fabric steamer stores very easily in a corner out of site
  • The tank is really easy to fill and empty
  • Great customer support–attending to customers issues and offering unit or parts replacement.
  • Replacement parts are readily available
Cons
  • Jiffy 2000 may not be one of the prettiest things to have around but what it lacked in terms of aesthetics, it more than made up for in terms of performance.
  • Base tend to move around too much.
  • When emptying the water there’s lots of water left over in the actual machine which is tedious to empty.

>>>See Jiffy 2000 garment steamer in action>>>

Our recommendations

  • Read the instructions to use properly.
  • Buy a longer hose if you are having difficulty steaming longer clothing.
  • The steamer works wonderfully provided you keep up with maintenance. It is highly recommended you spend the extra bucks for the liquid cleaner and maintain the steamer for proper function.

Made to last, the Jiffy 2000 fabric steamer will save you so much time and will help your business immensely. Strongly recommended… whether you’re doing only a few items or 100’s.

  • Does a great job and make clothes always look freshly pressed
  • Easy to assemble.
  • The hose is flexible and does not leak
  • Designed to use regular tap water. So you get to save money on buying filtered/distilled water.
Cons
  • Quite large and the base is heavy.
  • Because this takes a LONG time to warm up (between 15 – 20 minutes), it is not looking like the J-4000 is practical for daily personal use–especially when one is pressed for time in the morning.
  • The stand is not adjustable and can be quite short, especially with some long dresses.
  • Can be somewhat difficult to use for clothes without the board.

>>see Jiffy 4000 garment steamer in action>>>

Our recommendations

  • When you return the head to the stand, the holes should point upward.
  • Make sure you have a glove or similar protection on your hand.
  • Plan ahead: If you will like to unwrinkle your clothing let’s say in the morning, it makes sense to turn on the steamer before hitting the showers and let it preheat (it takes about 10 – 15 minutes). Always let the machine preheat all the way before turning it to steam mode.
  • Make sure you have enough water in the water reservoir before you turn it on to heat.

Our recommendations

  • If you’re experiencing water leaks from the steamer head: Lower the setting and let steamer warm up for a few minutes; use purified water; also, hold up the steamer head so that it is higher than the handle.
  • Don’t place the steamer too high to avoid a low point in the hose which could get the steamer to stop steaming.
  • If you’re encountering delayed steam going beyond three minutes: Ensure you have poured enough water into the tank and ensure the dial is turned to your desired setting (usually set from the manufacturer to the lowest setting and at this setting steam may not be visible).
  • To get good results pretty quickly: put your cloth on the hanger and focus on an area at a time. Also, try using “high steam settings.”  Another technique that could work is holding the end of the garment and pulling it so it’s a little tight. For a heavy garment with big and deep wrinkles, you could consider spraying a wrinkle release.
